ISIMIP3b: CWatM water global GFDL-ESM4 and IPSL-CM6A-LR experiments have same runoff data #34

issue

Matthias Büchner reported on Feb. 8, 2023.
The results for total daily and monthly runoff (qtot) from the GFDL-ESM4 and IPSL-CM6A.LR driven experiments are identical. We are currently investigating the full extent of this issue and which of the two experiments contains the correct data or duplicated data. We will update this issue once we know if other experiments, variables and climate drives are also affected.
Matthias Büchner commented on Feb. 17, 2023.
All future runoff files have now been replaced. In connection with this, all future "2015soc" datasets were renamed to "2015soc-from-histsoc" to allow distinguishing runs prolonged from "historical_histsoc" or "historical_2015soc", respectively.
Matthias Büchner commented on Feb. 13, 2023.
We have received additional information from the modelers in which they confirm the findings. In fact, the problem is so broad that all A/C drives are affected:

'qtot' variables (monthly and daily) for IPSL models are in fact GFDL models... So, indeed the repository contains twice the GFDL simulation for these variables. And then, the 'qtot' variables for MPI is replaced by IPSL data, MRI by MPI and UK by MRI. In fact, the 'qtot' data for UK are missing
Matthias Büchner commented on Feb. 8, 2023.
Further analysis showed that in fact only the total runoff (qtot) is affected. All other variables appear to be fine, showing different trends over time. We contacted the modeling group and asked them to comment and correct the runoff data for all three climate scenarios and the GCMs where the duplication occurred.
