Agriculture sector also provides pre-processed yield changes #60

Matthias Büchner reported on May 29, 2024.
All agriculture datasets in 'Output data' are the results from pure crop model runs according to the simulation protocol which means that crops are simulated in every grid cell no matter if the grid cell has actual cropland coverage in present or future land-use patterns or not. Furthermore the temporal resolution is per growing season compared to a real time axis in outsputs from other sectors.

Note that working with these outputs requires additional processing steps. Pre-processed and bias-adjusted yield changes data from 1901 to 2100 compared to a baseline from 1983 to 2013 will be made available 'Derived output’ section. We recommend to work with the derived data unless you have expert knowledge about the crop model data processing pipeline. Creating this product mainly incorporates these additional steps:

- Removing harvests of crops that have not reached maturity (i.e. for crop models that track maturity status, yield is set to 0 in case less than 80% of accumulated heat units required for maturity are reached)
- Discard data with growing season length < 50 days (yield set to NA in that case)
- Harvest events are sorted into annual time series
- Winter and spring wheat combined
- Rice 1 and rice 2 combined
- Rained and irrigated yields combined
- Fractional changes calculated from total production of each crop per grid cell and year

This product is currently in preparation and we will update this note as soon as it is available.
